Physical Science

High School Physical Science will introduce the fundamental skills students will need to pursue further sciences. An emphasis is placed on developing the skills of scientific inquiry, by using the scientific method (research and experimentation) to problem solve and develop critical thinking skills.

Fall Semester will focus on the properties and interactions of matter as we investigate chemistry. Students will engage in discussions as well as use a variety of media and resources including books, news articles, and current scientific data to research and study the foundations of chemistry. Students will be expected to map, interpret, and present data. Chemistry concepts will be applied to our knowledge of Earth as a system, involving relevant topics from geology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy.

Spring Semester will be a continuation of fall semester, focusing on energy transformation and motion as we explore physics. Students will engage in discussions as well as use a variety of media and resources including books, new articles, and current scientific data to reserach and study the foundations of physics. Students will be expected to map, interpret, and present data. Physics concepts will be applied to our knowledge of Earth as a system, including relevant topics from geology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy.

Physical Science is offered as both a college preparatory and an honors course for the 2019-2020 school year. Class will be split into lecture and lab time.
