April 8th Eclipse Day Early Dismissal

Dear Newmarket parents, guardians, teachers, and students,

As you probably know, a solar eclipse is coming on Monday, April 8th. The path of this once-in-a-lifetime eclipse passes directly over the Seacoast in New Hampshire in the afternoon. Monday’s forecast is sunny in Newmarket. The predicted clear weather allows residents to witness 95% totality between 3:25 and 3:35 PM. Without a schedule change, the timing of this event would be when our youngest students would be riding the school bus home. To ensure our students can be home before the total eclipse, the Newmarket Schools will dismiss 45 minutes early on April 8th. This means dismissal at the junior high will be at 1:45 PM, and NES will be dismissed at 2:15 PM. There will be no PM preschool on that day.

The start times of athletic practices and events on April 8th have also been adjusted to accommodate the eclipse. Contact AD Hayes or the coach if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Todd Allen
Newmarket Superintendent
