New Chapter and Jewelle Maziarz

New Chapter and Jewelle Maziarz

Dear Parents, guardians, and members of the Newmarket community,

As we enter the latter half of the school year, it is important that we begin to consider how we will move forward in the upcoming weeks, months, and years and navigate reverberations from the COVID pandemic and legislative changes.  In this next chapter, we will want to consider how to move forward together, tapping into lessons learned over the past two years, reflecting on successes, and identifying inherent challenges. More importantly, how can we look forward to a rich and exciting future, redefining our vision for the Newmarket School District as the centerpiece and the heart of the community.

As we begin efforts toward full recovery, with a focus on regrouping and rebuilding, we will be seeking input from staff, students, and families as we address primary challenges and develop plans that meet the needs of all.  To that end, we are seeking volunteers to join the Next Chapter Work Group.  This workgroup will be charged with identifying ways in which we will work together to leverage our learning, take stock of our strengths, and address the following interconnected issues:

  • Re-engaging and welcoming families and the community back into our schools
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment that supports learning (mask wearing, social distancing, and other mitigation measures)
  • Beginning the process of developing a vision and mission for the future
  • Keeping schools open when staff coverage is insufficient to operate
  • Hiring and retaining staff during labor shortages crisis
  • Addressing mental health needs of students and staff
  • Bringing joy back to our community!

We are seeking several parents (elementary, middle, and high school levels) that are willing to consider serving as a member of this workgroup. Your input is critical to the success of all.  If you would like to participate, please send a letter of interest to Patty Banfield (banfieldp@newmarket.k12.nh.us) by next Friday. Please include a little background information about you and your interest in joining the group.  We hope to begin meeting as soon as possible.

It is time to celebrate! Senior Jewelle Maziarz has been recruited by a Division 1 School for her Diving talent.  One of the most exciting moments for a high school student-athlete is receiving a verbal scholarship offer from a college or university. However, nothing is official until the student-athlete signs the National Letter of Intent. Today at 9:45 AM, we witnessed Jewelle Maziarz sign her National Letter of Intent accepting the scholarship offer to join the Central Connecticut State University, DIVISION 1 school diving team. We are so excited and proud to celebrate this major accomplishment with Jewelle, her family, coaches, friends, and staff.  Later today, we will be cheering her on as she heads to Lebanon, NH to compete in the NH State Champion Dive Meet and even later this year as she heads to Central Connecticut State University.
