NES Remote Update and Rec Dept. Support

Dear Elementary School Parents,

We understand that yesterday’s news announcing a transition to remote learning, as a result of COVID related quarantines, was surprising and frustrating for all.  We are mindful of the challenges that this news will bring for families in the upcoming weeks, therefore we have made every effort to provide as much advanced notice as possible.

As you know, our staffing has been minimal all year. At this time, we do not have adequate personnel to cover absences related to COVID, medical leaves, and other planned days off. We have considered every option for reallocating our limited staff, but we are faced with the stark reality that pivoting to remote instruction is the only way to keep our schools open for learning. We reached out to the state and have received the requisite waiver to shift to remote learning until April 5th. Teachers and support staff have been working all day to prepare packets of materials to send home. These have been delivered or are available for pick up until 5:00 PM this evening. If you are unable to pick materials up today, please contact the building administration.

Recognizing that this would present challenges for families, we have been working with the Recreation Department to provide a supervised remote location for families in need. If you are struggling to find a supervised option for your child(ren) this week, contact the Recreation Department via email at recdesk@newmarketnh.gov.

We hope that this will be the last time we are faced with a shift to remote learning this year, and we thank you for your continued flexibility and understanding during these challenging times.
