School Opening Updates

September 18, 2020

Good afternoon parents, guardians, and members of the Newmarket community,

It has been a very busy week, as students and teachers continue to settle in, get to know one another, and acclimate to the new school year! Below are a few updates to recap the week.

Remote Learning: Remote learning began this week, and although we experienced a few minor glitches with technology, over-all it was a great success.  Teachers in remote classes have enjoyed working with new students, as they virtually collaborate and learn together.  We will continue to refine our practices and improve our systems in the upcoming weeks and months, and we appreciate your kind patience.  While many things are different this year, much remains the same.  School is a place for learning and making new friends!

Arrival and Dismissal: Arrivals and dismissal are going very smoothly, and we are working with the transportation company to refine our bus and arrival schedules to reduce classroom arrival wait times. We will provide you with more information about this next week. We would like to ask that students, parents and guardians be mindful of their speed when entering and exiting the schools. Traveling slowly on campuses will ensure the safety of students.  Thank you!

Calendar Change: The District calendar currently includes a late start for students on Thursday September 24th.  As a result of our current instructional schedules, that day has been canceled and SEPTEMBER 24TH WILL BE A FULL DAY FOR ALL STUDENTS.

Morning Wellness Checks: Every morning before sending students to school, parents are required to perform a wellness check on their children. The form is available on our school reopening website. If your child(ren) do not feel well for any reason, please keep them home until they are symptom free without medication for 24 hours.

Menus & Preordering for Meals:  Menus are now available on our website.  Please follow this link to access the Newmarket School District-Food Service Site and let us know by Sunday night each week, what meals you would like to order for children.  Should you have any questions or difficulty accessing these documents, please reach out to Linda Hopey at hopeyl@newmarket.k12.nh.us.

Job Openings

Thank you so much for sending in your applications for monitors and paraprofessionals. Keep them coming. Between the applications we received yesterday, and a few temporary reassignments, we have enough to cover the basics on Tuesday. We still need three more monitors and many more paraprofessionals to fully meet the needs of our entire student population and provide a lunch break for every staff member. If you, or someone you know, is interested, please complete this application and submit it to Patty Banfield (banfieldp@newmarket.k12.nh.us).
