The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said :
“Democracy transformed from thin paper to thick action is the greatest form of government on earth.”
You only need to be 18 to vote. You do not need to be 18 to have a voice.
For over a year our Newmarket Chapter of Youth to Youth have been working with community leaders to pass a town ordinance raising the legal age to purchase tobacco and tobacco products from age 18 - to age 21 within the town of Newmarket.
Last night the Newmarket Town Council passed this town ordinance by a 5-2 vote. This is no small feat.
We are proud of the efforts of Newmarket Youth to Youth. Thank you to Caitlin Temple, Grace Lunney, Lydia Zungy, Chloe Reynolds, and others who have worked tirelessly to get this ordinance passed.
Thank you also to Ms. Silvia and Ms. Malsbary who been excellent mentors to this group.
Thank you Newmarket Youth to Youth for your efforts in transforming this idea from thin paper to thick action!
