Welcome to the School Counseling Department
The School Counseling Department supports all children's social-emotional development, academic progress, and college and career readiness.
We use a child-centered, family-driven, and solutions-focused approach.
We commit to providing a safe, inclusive, nurturing environment where all students feel welcome.
We seek to inspire all students to develop their individual potential to become life-long learners and actively-engaged citizens in our diverse and changing world.
There are three distinct, but interrelated, professional roles in our Department.
Conduct Special Education assessments
Perform Screenings
Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments
Co-develop and support teachers with student behavior plans
Gather and analyze data related to behavioral interventions
Provide student counseling
Coordinate 504 plans
Lead post-graduation planning
Support students with applications for financial aid and scholarships (NJSHS)
Support students with course selection (NJSHS)
Serve as liaisons between school and community
Work with students transitioning back after extended absences (i.e., hospitalization)
Help families with problems at home that interfere with ability of students to function well in school
In some areas, our roles overlap.
In all three roles, we:
provide couneling, crisis management, and risk assessments and
consult with teachers and administrators.
School Counselors and School Psychologists
support teachers with educational best practices.
School Psychologists and Social Workers
provide counseling and updates as outlined in IEPs.
Social Workers and School Counselors
refer students and families to outside providers, as well as connect families with local resources.
