*Updated New Traffic Pattern Starting on Monday Sept. 16th

Dear Parents,

As you may be aware the traffic pattern here at the Elementary school is creating a public safety problem on Rt. 152 (South Main St) and excessive parking along Durrell. These situations are impeding the flow of traffic, have students and parents unnecessarily crossing Durell Drive and prohibit emergency vehicles from easily passing through this area during this time.     

In a meeting with chiefs of police and fire, we decided a change in our current traffic flow is necessary. Starting Monday, September 16^th, both our morning drop off and afternoon pick up will occur behind the building at our back entrance. Please pull up to where staff members are on duty. Maintain a single line unless directed to pull forward by a staff member. Our doors lock at 8:30 am. Do not drop off your child if there is not a staff member standing outside. You will need to park in the front parking lot and bring them into the front door. Our buses will use the front of the building to drop off and pick up the children.  We believe this change will alleviate the back up because the road behind the building is 115 yards longer than the front driveway loop and can accommodate the volume of cars we have each afternoon. 

 

If you need to come into the building, or are dropping off/picking up a preschooler we ask that you park in the front parking lot and enter the building through the front doors.  All students walking or being dismissed early by a parent will need to use the front entrance. Please do not park in the front driveway as this is our new bus loop.

 

While putting this new plan into practice, we will have additional police officers. Our goal is to effectively address the safety concerns while ensuring a safe and swift afternoon parent pick up.

Our New Traffic Pattern:

 

                         DURELL DRIVE ENTRANCE IS AN EXIT ONLY FROM

 

                                         7:30am to 8:30am & 2:30pm to 3:30pm

 

Morning Drop Off:

1)      Enter the school’s back driveway from Route 152 (South Main Street) Look for sign

2)      Maintain a single line unless directed to pull forward by a staff member.

3)      Proceed to the sidewalk in the back of the building. Please pull up to where staff members are on duty.

4)      All children should exit your car from the passenger side of the car directly onto the sidewalk

5)     Follow the arrows to exit, turning left at the stop sign and exiting on to Durell Drive.

             6)     Drop off time is only between 7:45 am and  8:30 am. Do not drop off your child if there is not a staff member standing outside.

             7)     Our back door locks at 8:30 am.  (You will need to park in the front parking lot and bring them into the front door.)

Afternoon Pick Up:

Please clearly write your child’s full name on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper

1)      Enter the school’s back driveway from Route 152 (South Main Street) Look for sign

2)      Maintain a single line unless directed to pull forward by a staff member.

2)      Proceed to the sidewalk in the back of the building pulling up to the orange cone

3)      Place your child’s full name on the passenger side of your front dash.

4)      Do not exit your car…we will have your child come to you.

5)      Follow the arrows to exit, turning left at the stop sign exiting on to Durell Drive

           6)      Parent riders are dismissed starting at 2:55 pm and are done approx 3:05 to 3:10 pm
