Principal's September Newsletter

September 17, 2021

Dear Parents,

I’m pleased to see that the children have made a smooth transition into the school year. Our teachers have established their classroom routines and the school is abuzz with great energy and laughter. Throughout the school year we will reach out to you via newsletters and posting on our website in order to keep you informed about what’s going on here at NES. It’s a pleasure working with your children and I’m so proud of our learning community.

Transportation Update

This year we have faced some challenges in terms of our buses getting all students to and from school in a timely manner. This is due to ongoing staffing challenges the bus company is currently facing. In an effort to have the buses drop-off and pick-up more efficiently, we will need to make some adjustments to our bus routes. These changes will go into effect starting on Monday, September 20th.  Some of these changes include:

The children currently riding bus 3B will now be riding bus 5B.

The drivers for routes 3, 4, and 5 will be starting their NJSHS runs earlier in the morning. This in turn, will allow the drivers of these buses to start their elementary runs earlier so that they can drop off the children by 8:45.

Buses 1 and 2 times, and routes will remain the same for both NES & NJSHS.

We have posted the new routes on our website for your review. We thank you for your patience and cooperation with these changes. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Free and Reduced Lunch Program:

Parents and Guardians who have not yet filled out a 2021-2022 Household Application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals, please do so as soon as possible and you will be entered in this SPECIAL drawing.

For each completed application we receive by October 15, 2021, the applicant’s name will be entered in a drawing for four (4) $100 AMAZON gift cards.  Four winners will be chosen.  Filling out the application helps the Newmarket School District receive state and federal funding and may also qualify your child for fee waivers on college applications and can help to waive certain other fees as well.  Applications are available on our district website or at each school office.

Parent Notes:

We would like to remind parents to send in a note to your child’s classroom teacher if your child’s end of the day plan is going to vary from their normal routine. We need notes if your child is riding a different bus home, will be in parent pick-up or needs to be dismissed early from school. If you need to contact the school with any last minute change in plans, please try to contact the school by 2:00 pm. This will allow the office staff to share this information with your child’s teacher in a timely manner. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Absences or Tardies:

If your child is going to be absent or tardy from school, please contact the school. You can also leave a message in the school’s attendance voice mailbox by pressing 1

 Cross Country:

The boys and girls of the Cross Country team are off and running! This past Wednesday we hosted a home meet against Swasey Central School.
