School Facilities Update

There was a joint meeting of the School Board and Facilities Committee on April 13th (6:00 pm at Town Hall) to discuss updated educational specifications for the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High Schools.  The meeting was recorded by Channel 13 and can be found HERE.  The educational specifications list what spaces are needed to serve the educational program, and will serve as the foundation for the architect to come up with solutions.  Principals Andriski and Pine, along with Banwell Architects, have worked diligently over the past months to produce specifications that are both reasonable and easy to understand.  A step-by-step plan leading up to a project vote in March 2017 will also be reviewed at the meeting.

A Phase I environmental inspection of the McGrath property is underway and will likely be completed in the next two weeks.  An inspection of the buildings on the McGrath property revealed some hazardous material which will likely cost approximately $18,000 to remove according to an initial estimate.  Also, the Town Dept. of Public Works has given and estimate of $24,000 to demolish and remove the building on the McGrath property.  That work will need to go out to bid later in the summer.  A closing on the McGrath property will not take place until at least July (as is stated in the Purchase and Sale Agreement) because the purchase will be funded in part from the the 2016/17 budget which takes effect on July 1, 2016.  The McGrath property abuts the Elementary School and will allow for another access road to Route 152, separate bus and parent drop offs, relocation and expansion of the playground, and additional parking.

A draft land swap agreement has been created to effectuate the swapping of land behind the Elementary School.  As per the warrant article, the district will get approximately 4 acres of land directly behind the school in exchange for a little more than 2 acres of land the district currently owns along Durell Drive.  The transfer process is expected to occur over next few months.

Many thanks to the members of the committee for their dedication and tireless service to these efforts.  To find further information, please visit the Facilities Web Page http://facilitiescommittee.newmarket.k12.nh.us/ and/or liking the Facilities Committee on Facebook at  https://www.facebook.com/Newmarket-Facilities-Committee-1639462626310253/?fref=ts

The Gym Floor Has Been Fully Repaired!!

As of April 13, students and staff at Newmarket Junior Senior High have full use of the newly repaired gymnasium.  The staff, lead by Athletic Director James Hayes, worked diligently to create different options for gym classes and with other area towns to make sure that our athletes had practice and game space for winter sports.  The following video, which was produced Library Media Specialist Eric Anderson and NJSH students, will allow you to see what the beautiful new floor looks like.
