Message from the Office PDF Print E-mail

It's hard to believe we are approaching the mid-way point of the first trimester. As such, teachers will be holding Parent conferences throughout the week of the 20th, and during the day on Friday, October 24th. I realize this is a break from when we have traditionally held our Open House, but we felt it is important for you to hear how your child is doing with his/her studies earlier in the school year. This year we will be holding our Open House in March.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is bursting at the seams! If your child is missing something, please stop in and check out the items that have been left behind. With the chilly mornings, they'll need to bundle up!

Let us know about your child's schedule changes

I would like to remind parents to send in a note to your child's classroom teacher if your child's end of the day plan is going to vary from their normal routine. We need notes if your child is riding a different bus home, will be in parent pick up or needs to be dismissed early from school. If you need to contact the school with any last minute change in plans, please try to contact the school by 2:00 pm. This will allow the office staff to share this information with your child's teacher in a timely manner. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Absences or Tardies

If your child is going to be absent or tardy from school, please contact the school by leaving a message in the school's attendance voice mailbox by pressing 1.

If your child is sick... PDF Print E-mail

If your child is not feeling well in the morning, or is running a fever, or has vomited, please keep them home for the day. You should call your child in sick and relate their symptoms on the message. That way I can keep better track of what the current illnesses are at school. Also, if your child tests positive for strep or any other communicable disease, please let me know. Children with a positive strep test must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school. -- Sean Pine

Garden news PDF Print E-mail

It is harvest time in the Newmarket Elementary School Garden. The Garden Club students are busy harvesting tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, carrots and beans. They are planting fall crops of kale, radishes and lettuce as well as some garlic for next year. We had a big garlic harvest this summer and look forward to sharing it with the school community at the annual Spaghetti Supper. Look for it on your garlic bread. In addition to adding compost to our beds we will be planting a cover crop this fall to help improve our soil. Teaching the students about soil amendments will be part of our program this fall.

If you visit the garden this fall you will see our new garden shed. We would like to thank Chris Cote and Amy Gendreau for their help building the new shed. Having our supplies right there in the garden will save time and allow the students more time to work in the garden. The Garden Club provides a chance for students to get outside and learn by doing so more time in the garden means more fun and learning. Please visit our garden space and see what our students are up to.

Cross Country PDF Print E-mail

The season is off to a flying start! This past Wednesday, our boys and girls participated in their first meet of the season in Brentwood. Each student did a fantastic job! Holly Fermon placed 2nd out of a 169 girls and she was closely followed by Isabella Giacomoni in 10th place. Overall the girls team placed 3rd out of 9 teams. In the boys race, Tyler Napoeletano finished 4th out of 149 boys and the team placed 5th out of 9 teams. We also want to recognize Caleb Smith for his outstanding sportsmanship. During the race Caleb stopped to help pick up another runner who had fallen. Way to go Caleb! I would also like to thank Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Lupoli, Ms. McSpiritt, Ms. Bixby and Mrs. Raymond for working with the 62 NES runners! -- Sean Pine

Dropping off in the morning PDF Print E-mail

If you're dropping your child off in the morning, I'm sure you're aware that our parking lot is a very busy place in the morning with many cars in the lot. Recently, I have seen several children getting out of cars into the flow of traffic, which is a safety hazard. Please make sure you have your child exit the car using a door on the school side of the parking lot. Thanks! -- Sean Pine

Welcome to the New Year! PDF Print E-mail

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your assistance in making the opening of the school year such a success.  The students and teachers have now established their daily routines and school is in full swing.  Mrs. Roffo and I have been in some classrooms over the last few days and we will continue to make time to visit with the students.  Thank you to all who attended our Parent Information Night; it was wonderful to see such a great turnout. Our staff enjoyed having the opportunity to share with you information about your child's upcoming school year.
