10/25/2013 - On Tuesday, October 22nd, representatives from Newmarket and Oyster River school districts met at the Newmarket Jr/Sr High School. Three items were on the agenda. Oyster River clarified that their vote in March on a tuition agreement would be a simple majority vote of the entire Cooperative District. There was some impression that the agreement would have to be supported separately by each of the three towns that make up the Cooperative District, but that is not the case.
A discussion was held regarding the method that would be used to determine rank-in-class in the first couple years of the agreement. Representatives discussed the merits of merging all students into one rank order versus having separate ranks for Newmarket and Oyster River. The two high schools have different methods of determining ranks, which could prove difficult in merging into one rank order. It was agreed that we should work together to prepare rank orders both ways and determine which seems fairest to students.
Newmarket presented Oyster River with a set of proposals to modify the current framework of the Tuition Agreement. Oyster River plans to consider these proposals and respond to Newmarket as soon as possible.
