9/12/2013 - A joint meeting of the School Board, Town Council, and Budget Committee is scheduled for Monday, September 30th, at 7 PM in the Town Hall Auditorium to hear and discuss a presentation about using an alternative fuel source, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), for heating our Town and School facilities. This option could save considerable costs in the operation of these facilities.
Following completion of a schematic design and cost estimate for a new Jr/Sr High School, Dr. Hayes started investigating alternative energy solutions that had potential to reduce operating costs in the new school. He met with our architect, Dan Bisson, and Clifton Greim, President of Harriman Architects & Engineers, who is a mechanical engineer by trade and who is very knowledgeable in this area. They discussed a number of options, concluding that CNG might be the best option for Newmarket. The payback period was about 2-3 years, the savings as compared to using fuel oil was about 40%, and Town and School facilities could be connected to this local network. Town administrators met with Mr. Greim, agreed that CNG was a promising option for the Town and schools, and agreed that this joint meeting would be the next step in exploring this option. The meeting will be made available on Channel 13.
